Liwale

Liwale, renowned for its rich and diverse landscape, offers a true wilderness experience. The hunting blocks share approximately 35 miles of boundary with the famed Selous Game Reserve, and about 80 miles are bordering the newly established Nyerere National Park. In the north the area is characterised by flat miombo woodland and sand forests with seasonal sand rivers and large permanent ponds.
Towards the southern region of the area, the terrain becomes more rugged dropping down the escarpment towards the Nnjenje River, sharing the boundary with the Nyerere National Park. Here the terrain is made up of open rolling hills interspersed with wooded valleys and streams all heading west towards the river, and the plains flanking it. All this creates an incredibly rich habitat for a variety of wildlife, making a home to a vast selection of game species, including elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, zebra, and a number of antelope species including the rare Nyassa Wildebeest and East African Suni.

The remote, and less populated nature of the area makes it ideal for hunters seeking an exclusive and authentic East African experience. Rich in biodiversity, Liwale is a key part of the southern Tanzanian wilderness, offering both challenging hunts and an opportunity to witness pristine landscapes teeming with wildlife. Kilombero North Safaris’ three concessions in the area span roughly 2,373 square kilometres with two beautifully designed East African style safari camps, and a comfortable fly camp, all strategically located within the areas to ensure maximum access to as much of the vast game rich region as possible.

The rainy season in Liwale, from November to May, brings higher temperatures and increased humidity. This period is marked by frequent rainfall, with heavy downpours that can create lush, green landscapes and boost vegetation growth - while the increased cover can make wildlife tracking more challenging, a vast variety of species are drawn to the area during this period.

Clients can expect a combination of savannah, woodlands, and some forested areas within Liwale, with a mix of gently rolling hills and flat plains. The area’s diverse landscape provides a unique habitat for a variety of wildlife, from antelope and elephants to bird species. The combination of warm temperatures, seasonal rainfall, and varied terrain makes Liwale an interesting destination for both wildlife enthusiasts and hunters.
